Swift-Cantrell Park in Kennesaw in Cobb County (see map at end) has A LOT to offer. There's a fenced dog park, two large playgrounds, a skatepark, paved walking trails and a splash pad. With so much to cover, I'll address each one individually. Playgrounds There were two large playground areas with enough for children of varying ages to enjoy. There is one playground for ages 2-5 years old, but there were older kids playing there, which was fine - it's big enough. There are slides, "stepping stones," smaller climbing challenges, platforms and ramps, bongo drums and other sensory activities to keep little ones engaged. There also are a cute car and trains for kids to play on. The playground for older kids had larger slides, a wobbly bridge and more challenging climbing areas, including what I called the "spider web" and various types of monkey bars and rings. And there was a tubed umbrella thing that kids could hang off of while being spun around (my 7-year-old wasn't crazy about it). Splash Pad What better way to cool off after running around in the playground (or watching your kid do it) than the Splash Pad? For only $2 a person, this is a very budget-friendly activity for the family, whether it's after enjoying the rest of the park or the main event. We actually checked it out on July 4 and it was FREE!!! From Memorial Day to July 31 it's open daily from 10 am to 7 pm (except Thursdays it's closed for maintenance). After July 31 through Labor Day it's only open on weekends. It's funny because a sign says NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY - which is amusing because I'm not sure why a lifeguard would be needed because there's no standing water. However, there was a "guard" of sorts to keep the kids from pushing each other and continuously tell them to stop running - because if they slipped and fell on the concrete it would HURT. The really neat thing about the Splash Pad is all the different hoses the kids can turn to spray each other - or their parents. Even sitting on the sidelines, some sprayers do seem able to reach the chairs so be prepared to get wet, which is part of the fun. There also were some buckets that let you get dunked, which was a constant source of entertainment for the kids. There is a bathroom (with a baby changing station in one stall) and water fountain nearby. There also are some lounges in the shade although about half of the chairs are in the sun. There also are shaded picnic tables just outside the splash pad. Other Park Amenities
If you like walking, there are two main loops that go around and through the park. If your child likes Pokemon Go like my son does, there are several pokestops and gyms to keep the kid entertained - and moving (as long as they don't want to fight in the gyms, lol). There are bathroom and water fountain facilities located at different points in the park. The dog park we did not use, but it looked very large and clean and there is a separate area for dogs under 30 pounds. The dogs we saw looked like they were well-behaved and having a good time. We didn't take advantage of the free skate park either, but the park's website says it's a 40,000 sq ft, all-concrete skatepark consisting of a Street League Skateboarding (SLS) Foundation Certified Skate Plaza, flow course and bowl. Helmets are required for skaters ages 15 and under. I can say it was entertaining to watch the skaters that were there.
